MAG welding has been the most common welding method for some time. It is still increasing in popularity, and the technology is developing constantly. The more practical experience welders gain in MAG welding, the more the technology can be developed.
RAPID PROCESSING®– a concept for high productivity MAG welding, developed by AGA.
RAPID PROCESSING offers the following advantages:
Better productivity as a consequence of higher welding speed and/or greater deposition rate.
Better quality with less spatter and weld surface slag is created, better side penetration and smoother weld reinforcements.
These can be achieved with no or very low costs for new investments in relation to increased productivity. Cycle times are shorter, bottlenecks are eliminated, production costs are reduced and supply times are shortened, all thanks to faster production.
RAPID PROCESSING is a technique that is eminently suitable for welding non-alloy and low-alloy steels with thicknesses above 1 mm. RAPID PROCESSING can also be used on stainless steels. The greatest cost savings can be made in mechanised or robotic welding.
RAPID PROCESSING represents a new way of thinking within MAG welding. To achieve the best possible results, unconventional welding parameter settings are used together with an argon-rich shielding gas. MISON® shielding gases provide greater productivity and a better working environment. This welding method involves very low or none investments except time.
Other advanced MAG welding methods are:
Hybrid welding involving MAG and laser or MAG and Plasma. These methods are mainly used to achive higher productivity.
Tandem or twin arc welding is another MAG welding method used to increase productivity which includes two wires instead of one.
There is also different modern MAG welding machines made to reduce the heat input and spatterformation.
All of these methods use different types of pulsing techniques. But they also use advanced wire feeding techniques or altering polarity to influence the heat and material transfer.
Different brand names used by the suppliers are CMT, AC MIG/MAG, cold arc, WISE, superpulse, etc.
